In Memory of Dee “Pete” Hart

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' athletic department is saddened to hear of the passing of Dee "Pete" Hart, who was elected to the Hardin-Simmons Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992.
 
Pete was a native of Aspermont, Texas where he graduated from Aspermont High School before enlisting in the US Army where he proudly served overseas.
 
Pete attended Hardin-Simmons University where he played football for four years. He was the No. 4 leading rusher in the nation and led the Border Conference with 785 yards in 1958. Pete was a co-Captain and was named all-Border Conference in 1958 as well as All-American honorable mention. He was invited to and played in the Blue-Gray game in 1958.
 
While at Hardin-Simmons, Pete was named the Outstanding Cowboy running back from 1955-58 and was named the Most Outstanding Cowboy Athlete for the 1958-59 school year. He gained 2281 career yards rushing on 443 carries at HSU and was later drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959 and played for the New York Titans in 1960.
