Freeman is in his second season as the defensive line coach at his alma mater.
He had one of the top defensive lines in the conference last year and Caden Sampson-Stuckey was named first-team All-ASC and all-region. Hayden Hays was named second-team All-ASC.
He was a standout defensive lineman for the Cowboys from 1998 to 2001. In 2000, he was named the American Southwest Conference defensive lineman of the year and an All-American. He won four ASC titles in his career and in 2000 HSU advanced to the NCAA Division III Semifinal. He was a three-time all-ASC selection in his career.
Freeman was inducted into the HSU Football Hall of Honor in April of 2025.
He was the athletic director and football coach at his hometown of Roscoe from 2013 until 2025. He was named the district coach of the year three times and was the Big Country 2A Coach of the Year in 2021. He led the Plowboys to three district titles and went to the regional semifinals on three different occasions.
Prior to that, he coached at Early and Sweetwater High Schools as an assistant coach.
He earned a bachelor's degree in behavioral science from HSU.
He is married to Lindsay and has a son, Brody and two daughters, Jalin and Baylor.
