Grubbs is in his 26th year at Hardin-Simmons University. In September of 2023, he was promoted to Associate Athletic Director for External Relations.

He is still providing sport coverage for the football, baseball and golf teams. He has also added some administrative duties including revamping the Cowboy Club and strengthening the relationship with former players. He has handed over the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Communications office but still oversees the department. He also runs the HSU Athletic Hall of Fame.

He has provided the oversight to two major trendsetting standards among Division III SID departments. HSU was the first Division III school in the nation to go to a sports specific vendor for the hosting of its web site when it went with CSTV in 2001. After 11 years with with Presto Sports, HSU has turned to the industry leader in Sidearm Sports for its web site needs. HSU was also the first Division III school to add livestats to the web site in 2000. Both of those trends are something that a majority of the schools around the nation now provide.

Grubbs regularly broadcasts on the internet for HSU.

In his time at Hardin-Simmons, he has successfully publicized several athletes to national awards – including three national players of the year in Kendra Anderson (women’s basketball), Ashley Huston (women’s track and field) and Kenne Kessler (women's soccer). HSU is the only school in the ASC to have a Honda Award winner, a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete winner, and a NCAA Woman of the Year Finalists (four times). He also has promoted three CoSIDA national athletes of the year. HSU also leads the ASC in academic and athletic All-Americans and NCAA Postgraduate scholars during his time at Hardin-Simmons. He has led the publicity efforts that have landed HSU student-athletes on SportsCenter Top Plays and/or College Football Gameday 11 times in his career.

He was voted the American Southwest Conference Sports Information Department of the year for the 2010-11 in a vote of his peers.

Grubbs is an active member of CoSIDA, where he serves on the publications committee that he served a three-year stint as the national chair. He was also voted as a board member of DIII SIDA for a three-year term in a vote of the SIDs in the region.

He spent two three-year terms on the NCAA Stats board that helped with statistical rules and regulations for the entire country.

He has or is currently serving as a national top 25 voter for men’s and women’s soccer, football and baseball and has served on the All-American committee for both soccers, women’s basketball, football and baseball.

He has also served on the regional advisory committee for the NCAA in men's soccer (two terms) and women's basketball.

In addition to his regular duties, he also serves on the student publications committee at Hardin-Simmons, has help sponsor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is HSU’s representative on the Abilene Sports Alliance Committee.

Grubbs is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations in 1999. He added a master’s degree from Hardin-Simmons in Sports and Recreation Management in 2002. He is originally from Fletcher, Okla., and he has been married to the former Lori Plumbtree for 27 years. They have one daughter, Lynlee (21), who is a senior at Oklahoma State..
