ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team went down 2-1 to the McMurry War Hawks in a tough hitters' night at Elli Field on Wednesday.
The War Hawks led off with a walk that stole second and was sacrifice-bunted to third. Faubion came home from third on a suicide squeeze play and there was no play at the plate for the 1-0 McMurry lead.
McMurry hit a triple in the third inning and sent her to the plate on a second squeeze bunt and she got under a tag to make it 2-0.
Grace Thompson legged out an infield single on a long throw from the shortstop to drive in the Cowgirl run in the sixth inning but couldn't beat the deficit and fell 2-1.
McMurry finished with two runs on five hits and the Cowgirls had a run on six hits.
Madi Hubbard had a double for Hardin-Simmons and came round to score. Hubbard led the team with two hits.
Haley Henson extended her hitting streak to 15 games, extending back to last season, with a hit in all 13 games for HSU this year.
Akaysia Grogan started at pitcher for the Cowgirls and threw four innings with two runs on just two hits with three strikeouts and a walk in the loss.
Gabby Montanez threw three innings with three strikeouts and allowed three hits with a walk.
The Cowgirls fall to 10-3 on the season and will travel to play University of the Southwest on Saturday, wit the two games to be played at Midland College at 1&3 p.m.
