TOPEKA, Kan. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy track and field team had a pair of record performances from
Davare Payne in the indoor track triple jump and long jump at Washburn on Saturday.
Payne landed a second-place finish 48-09 ½ ft. triple jump (14.87m) for the Cowboy indoor record. The previous record was also held by Payne with a 14.39m jump in 2024.
Payne hit his second record performance in the indoor long jump with a distance of 22-10 ft. (6.96m) for the Cowboys to place ninth overall. He broke the record previously held by James McIntyre with 6.88m in 2020.
Donovan Simmons ran a 7.08 in the 60m dash for the Cowboy team. Grayford Albrecht had a 22.75 in the 200m for the Cowboys. Albrecht also led in the 400m with a time of 51.99.
Tate Strange led the Cowboys in the 400m with a 2:07 finish.
Parker Sexton ran the 1000m in 3:38 for HSU.
Noah Bela had the best mile time with a 4:32 and
Gunner Helm cleared 6-06 ¼ ft. in the high jump.
Nathan Mangual threw the shot put 47-00 ¼ ft. and led the weighted throw for HSU with a 44-11 ½ ft. throw.
The next Hardin-Simmons track competition will be at the Dan Scott Invite in Lubbock, Texas on Jan. 26.
