SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball had a big win over the Southwestern Pirates 3-1 and fell to No. 8 Trinity 3-1 on Saturday in San Antonio, with a milestone day for
Jadyn Hernandez, who recorded her 300
th career block for the Cowgirls.
Hernandez is a junior middle blocker for the Cowgirls from Abilene and had 111 blocks as a freshman, 108 blocks as a sophomore, and 93 blocks so far this season. She finished Saturday with six blocks against Southwestern and eight blocks against Trinity to get to 312 blocks in her career.
The Cowgirls won 3-1 against Southwestern with sets of 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22. HSU swung for 20 kills on a .484 attack percentage for a ridiculous opening set win. Hardin-Simmons finished strong with great serving in the final sets to close the win. They ended with seven services aces in the match against the Pirates.
Four Cowgirls had double-digit kills in the match, led by
Abbi Allen with 13 kills hitting .320 from as a right-side hitter. Hernandez,
Liz Keidl, and Leigh Jespesen each had 12 kills against Southwestern, Hernandez hitting .429 at middle blocker.
Senior
Keatyn Rodgers had a career-best 30 assists with all the Cowgirl kills.
Allison O'Shaughnessy added 23 assists for Hardin-Simmons.
Kat Martinez had 18 digs to lead the Cowgirls and Jespersen ended with 17 digs to make a double-double with her kills.
The Cowgirls fell in the second match of the day against No. 8 Trinity 3-1 with sets of 25-19. 25-20, 28-30, 25-23. Hardin-Simmons had 13 blocks and nine service aces versus the top-10 team and took a marathon win in set three.
Avery Tumlinson swung for a career-high 12 kills against the Tigers with a .391 attack percentage in the middle.
Rachel Nordt led all Cowgirls with 13 kills on an absurd .400 hitting percentage as an outside, with just one attack error in 30 chances. Hernandez finished with ten kills against Trinity.
Allison O'Shaughnessy had 22 assists and Rodgers had 20 in the afternoon match for HSU. Martinez led again as libero with 18 digs.
The Cowgirls end the regular season at 16-9 under head coach
Kendall Crisp and will return to the American Southwest Conference championship tournament on Friday, Nov. 14 for a semifinal match with Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:30 p.m. hosted by East Texas Baptist in Marshall, Texas.
