Box Score ALPINE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team played through double overtime to tie the Sul Ross State Lobos 2-2 on Monday in American Southwest Conference action.
Brittany Berumen scored in the second minute of the game off a free kick to give the Lobos a 1-0 lead. The Cowgirls scored to tie the game at one right before half off the foot of Chloe Devore.
The Cowgirls took the lead in the 56th minute after senior Rachel Bean put one into the corner with an assist from fellow senior Madelyn Dowell. The Lobos scored in the 90th minute from Berumen again to force overtime, and the game ended in a 2-2 stalemate.
The Cowgirls shot 14 times with eight on frame and an assist while Sul Ross had five shots and four on goal in the contest. HSU led with six corners to Sul Ross's two.
Haley Foley started at keeper for the Cowgirls. Kayla Gable came in the second half and finished the game with two saves in the no decision.
The Lobo goalie Alitzel Ybarra had six saves in the full 110 minutes in goal.
The Cowgirls move to 2-0-1 and the Lobos stand at 2-1-1 after the game. Cowgirl soccer will return on Friday in Round Rock as the team takes on Concordia starting at 5 p.m.
