Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team defeated the Sul Ross State Lobos 1-0 on Saturday night in Abilene in American Southwest Conference play on Cowgirl Senior Night.
The pregame began with the team honoring its eight seniors, #0 Kayla Gable, #3 Madelyn Dowell, #4 Casady Jenkins, #5 Michaela Sabrsula, #7 Ellie Ratliff, #23 Baylee Ford, #26 Rachel Bean, and #27 Elly Green. The seniors got their 63rd Cowgirl soccer win 1-0 over Sul Ross.
The back and forth contest was decided after Cowgirl Alexis Sciano sent a ball off the crossbar and scored from the rebound for the 1-0 Cowgirl lead in the 74th minute.
Haley Foley started in goal and had a save for HSU. Senior Kayla Gable played in goal the second half and got the win with two saves.
The Lobo keeper was Alitzel Ybarra, and she had an incredible night with six saves in the loss.
The Cowgirls had a ridiculous 28 shots to six for Sul Ross, and HSU put seven on frame to the Lobo three. The Cowgirls also led with ten corner kicks to zero for Sul Ross.
The Cowgirls got their fourth win and move to 4-0-1 and 4-0-1 in the conference. Sul Ross falls to 2-21 and 2-2-1 in ASC play. The Cowgirl soccer team will travel to Mary-Hardin Baylor next Saturday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
