Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team began its regular season on Saturday with a 1-0 victory against the McMurry War Hawks in American Southwest Conference play at the HSU Soccer Complex.
The Cowgirls had a first half goal taken off the board after it was ruled a high kick and dangerous play. Hardin-Simmons got the game-winner off the foot of freshman Kaylee Maddox after a great header assist from senior Rachel Bean in the 64th minute.
The Cowgirls shot 12 times and put six on frame while McMurry shot twice. The Cowgirls also led with six corners to three for the War Hawks.
Haley Foley started at keeper for the Cowgirls. Senior Kayla Gable held down the fort for the second half, the two combining for a shutout performance.
The War Hawks started Cindy Villasana in goal, and she had five saves in 85 plus minutes. Priscella Caruso came in at goalie to finish the game for McMurry.
The Cowgirls start the year off 1-0 and 1-0 in ASC play. McMurry falls to 1-1 and 1-1 in the conference. The Cowgirls are back in action at the HSU Soccer Complex on Grape Street next Thursday night against Howard Payne starting at 7:30 p.m.
